‘STUDY in AUSTRALIA’ SCHOLARSHIP
for a student from the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia
INSTRUCTIONS FOR APPLICANTS
1. To apply, you must be a citizen of the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, who is enrolled as a ‘ucenici vo 3-ta godina’ high school student in the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia during 2008-09.
2. Your application must be in English, and preferably typed. Applications should be sent by email to the following email address: scholarship.belgrade@dfat.gov.au

3. Applications must reach the Australian Embassy by 4pm on Sunday 7 December 2009.
4. Your application must include the following basic personal details:

5. Your application must include the following education details:
| Name of school |
| School’s address |
| School’s contact details (preferably phone no.) |
| A photocopy of your school report book for the last academic year. |
6. Your application must answer the following two questions:
| Why do you want to go to Australia to study English? (maximum 300 words) |
| Australia and the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia have strong community ties. What do the links between our two countries mean to you? (maximum 500 words) |
7. All applicants will be notified as to the success of their application. The selection committee will meet shortly after applications close to select a student for the scholarship based on the relative merit of the applications. We expect to notify the successful student in January 2009. We expect that the student will travel to Australia at some time during June – September 2009.
8. In submitting an application, students are acknowledging that they have read and agreed with the Terms and Conditions of the scholarship (below). We suggest you read the Terms and Conditions before commencing your application.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS
1. Entries are due by 7 December 2008. No late or incomplete entries will be considered.
2. Entries are open to citizens of the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, who are enrolled as a ‘ucenici vo 3-ta godina’ high school student in the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia during 2008-09.
3. The selection committee will include the Australian Ambassador to the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia and a representative of Pexim Solutions.
4. In making its decision, the selection committee may choose to seek further information about applicants, including by speaking with the applicant’s school, or by conducting a phone interview with the applicant.
5. The decision of the selection committee is final.
6. Unsuccessful applicants will be notified by the Embassy. Feedback will not be provided to unsuccessful applicants.
7. The student selected as the scholarship winner will be notified by the Embassy, and will be required to sign an agreement with the Embassy. The agreement will cover issues including acknowledgements by the scholarship winner to attend all classes paid for by the scholarship, and return to Australia on the agreed date. The agreement will make provision for the immediate cancellation of the scholarship if the agreement is breached, and the student will be required to depart Australia immediately.
8. The Embassy cannot guarantee that the scholarship winner will be granted a student visa for study in Australia. Should the winner not obtain a student visa, a new winner will be selected on the basis of a merit list. Visa information is available from the Embassy.
9. The scholarship winner and the Embassy will decide on the most appropriate short-term English language academic course, as well as the most appropriate city in Australia for the student to study in, and the timing of the scholarship. The Embassy will make the final decision on these issues. The winning student must complete the scholarship by the end of 2009.
10. The scholarship will cover the cost of a return economy airfare from Skopje to the selected destination in Australia, the cost of the English language course selected, the cost of travel insurance, the cost of accommodation, and a small daily stipend.
